About

One person. Houston-based. Accountable to your business.

I'm based in Cypress and I run Lone Star Answers.

Before this, I spent years in systems integration and project engineering, working with contractors and building owners to make complicated technology actually work in the real world. The pattern I kept seeing: small contractors were losing serious money to missed calls, and the existing options were either too expensive or too complicated to manage.

AI voice technology got good enough in 2025 to actually solve this. But there's a gap between "the technology exists" and "a small contractor can use it without becoming an IT department." That gap is what Lone Star Answers fills. I do the technical work; you do the contracting work.

I'm one person, not a call center or a national chain. That's a deliberate choice. It means when something needs to be fixed, you talk to me, not a support ticket queue. I'm looking to work with about 15–20 small contractor businesses in the Houston area. If it's a fit, you'll know.

You Talk To

The questions you're too polite to ask.

You're thinking about handing your phones to a guy you found on the internet. Here's what I'd want to know if I were you.

What if you disappear?

Nothing happens to your phones.

The AI isn't running on my laptop. It runs on infrastructure that keeps answering whether I'm at my desk, on vacation, or hit by a bus. If I vanished tomorrow with no warning, your phone would keep getting answered exactly the same way it did yesterday.

And you keep your number. This is the part most people miss. Your customers keep calling the same number they've always called. Same number on your truck, same number on your invoices, same number your repeat customers have in their phone. You forward it to me. Nothing your customers can see ever changes.

Which means firing me takes about five minutes. You pull the forward. Your phone rings on your phone again. That's it. No contract to unwind, no number to reclaim, no thirty-day notice.

There's one honest catch, and I'd rather tell you now than have you find out later: the setup lives in my accounts, not yours. If you leave, you go back to how things were before me. You don't get to keep the AI and run it yourself. That's the trade. You never have to log into anything, learn anything, or administer anything, and in exchange you're not walking away with the machine.

You're one guy. What happens when you get busy?

I cap it at twenty clients.

Not as a marketing thing. Because that's what I can actually do well, and I'd rather turn you down than take your money and do a bad job with it. When I hit twenty, new people go on a list until I hire someone.

I also have a full-time job. I manage data center construction projects. That's not something I'm hiding from you, because it's the reason this works the way it does.

I'm not living off your $400. I don't need to sign forty contractors to cover rent, so I don't. I take the clients I can actually take care of. When I do this full-time, it'll be because it earned its way there, not because I got desperate.

What that means practically:

You text me, you hear back within a few hours, and it's fixed the same day. Not "within one business day." Same day.

If it's actually urgent, if the AI is saying something wrong to your customers right now, I kill it and forward your line straight to your phone in five minutes. Then I fix it properly. You're never stuck waiting on me while your calls go sideways.

And here's what will actually go wrong.

Not a bus. Not a server outage. Here's the real one: some week my day job gets brutal, and something you asked me to change takes three days instead of one. That's the honest failure mode. It's why twenty is the cap and why I'd rather say no to you than say yes and let you down.

Every vendor you've ever hired told you nothing would go wrong. I'm telling you exactly what will.

Why not just use a real answering service?

You should use one, if what you want is a call center.

Ruby and Smith.ai are good at what they do. They have hundreds of people, real redundancy, and they'll never get the flu. If that's what you're after, go hire them. I'm not going to pretend I'm a better version of a thing I'm not.

Here's what you get instead.

Someone who set it up for your shop, not for "home services." The AI knows your service call fee, which calls are emergencies, and which jobs you don't take. That's what the first two weeks are for. A call center reads a script somebody wrote in a week. This gets built around how you actually run.

When you call me, I pick up. Not a ticket. Not a queue. Not somebody in another time zone reading your account history for the first time. Me. Usually within a few hours, same day always.

Ruby has four hundred employees and none of them know your business. I have twenty clients and I know all of them.

Pick the one you actually want.

Why Local Matters

I know Cypress from Katy.

The big players

Most AI answering services are venture-funded SaaS companies based in San Francisco or New York. They have engineers, marketers, and a national customer base. They don't know what Houston summers do to HVAC demand.

Local knowledge

I know which neighborhoods have older stock that fails in July. I know which roads get the storm damage. I know what it sounds like when a customer calls in panic at 11pm because their garage door won't close.

What that means for you

Better-tuned agents, faster fixes when something's off, and the ability to meet you in person if it ever matters. One person. One phone number. No support queue.

How I Work

What sets me apart.

I do the technical work

Configuration, testing, monitoring, fixes. All on me. You do the contracting.
